What is Permanent Makeup?
About Face by Jul offers cosmetic tattoo artistry or micropigmentation, commonly known as “permanent cosmetics.” Jul's unique advanced training and experience ensure the gentlest treatment and a subtle, pleasing outcome. Very few technicians are certified in both hand and machine methods.  At About Face by Jul, you get what you want--gorgeous color and soft, natural results.

Why do it?
Imagine waking up looking great and having extra time every day to spend on something other than applying and removing makeup. Swim or exercise with your brows intact and your liner not smeared. Bye bye, raccoon eyes. No more lipstick on your wine glass!

Women have been wearing cosmetics for centuries and looking beautiful never goes out of style. When you think about it, how healthy is topical makeup for your skin, eyes and lips? In fact, doctors have told Jul and her clients that cosmetic tattoo is healthier for the eyes than makeup.

For many, cosmetic tattoo is like getting a mini face lift without the cost and pain. (And no one has to know.)

A good cosmetic tattoo artist can create balance and symmetry where they currently do not exist. And you don't "wake up with heavy makeup," but your features are  naturally enhanced. It's all about looking as good on the outside as you feel on the inside. When you see it, you'll want it! You deserve this.
 Who benefits from cosmetic tattoo?
EVERYONE, from the young to the elderly, who desires a soft, natural enhancement to her appearance. It is especially beneficial to people who can't wear cosmetics due to allergies and skin sensitivities; active people who want to look their best even during sports activities; busy moms; and those who don't want to worry about "sweating off" or re-applying cosmetics. It also benefits the vision impaired who have difficulty applying cosmetics; those with unsteady hands; and busy people who don't have time to spend on their makeup.  Men, too, can benefit from cosmetic tattoo as eyebrows can define your face, a little pigment in the lash line can open eyes.

Is it really permanent?
Cosmetic tattooing should be thought of as"permanent" (meaning you cannot wash it off). However, the degree of "permanency" varies with each individual. Color can and will fade due to many factors, including exposure to sun, individual body chemistry, and the degree of care taken to maintain the work. Touch ups (color boosts) every 2-5 years are to be expected. Processes such as facials, peels, AHAs, or certain medications such as acutane can adversely affect color integrity.

Is it painful?
This varies according to an individual's pain threshold and the methods used by the technician. However, Jul uses very effective topicals to help keep you comfortable. Many of Jul's clients have reported virtually no pain during the procedure!
Is it safe?
If proper CDC guidelines are met, cosmetic tattoo should be completely safe.  IMPORTANT things to look for:  The artist should display current licenses for both herself and the establishment from the Minnesota Dept. of Health.  All needles should be new and sterile for each client. Other supplies should be sterile and disposed of in a sanitary manner. Gloves and barrier should be new for each client. The technician should be clean and knowledgeable of environmental safety requirements. The procedure room should be in an area free from carpeting and other contaminants. You should feel confident in the artist and her abilities after your initial consultation.
